I was born and raised in the constituency attending Adamsrill Primary School in Sydenham and Cator Park Secondary School (now Harris Bromley) in Penge. I am now raising my own family here and I am proud to call it home.
I studied law at Oxford University and then worked as an employment rights lawyer for over 10 years. I mainly represented Unite and UCATT trade union members as a trade union lawyer and then set up my own business providing help to working mums and women facing pregnancy discrimination.
I joined the Labour party aged 15, motivated to do so by the poor conditions of my secondary school which were caused by a lack of funding. I have been campaigning for social justice, public services and equality ever since then, and served on the Labour Party's National Executive Committee between 2006 - 2016. I am also vice chair of the London Labour Party.
I am extremely proud to have been elected in 2017 and 2019 to represent the area that I love. It is an honour working to be a strong and active voice for our community in Westminster. In April 2020 I was appointed to the Labour Front Bench as Shadow Solicitor General. In this role, I work with the Shadow Attorney General to scrutinise the Government Law Officer’s oversight of prosecuting bodies and the legal advice they give the Government, as well as ensuring they fulfil their duty to uphold the rule of law.
